MALDITA CASTILLA: REQUIEM (MEGA DRIVE) – DEMO

Thank you for trying this demo of Maldita Castilla: Requiem for Mega Drive.

Originally created by Locomalito with music by Gryzor87, Maldita Castilla was first released for PC in 2012 and has since become one of the most celebrated modern retro games thanks to its demanding arcade gameplay, Spanish folklore-inspired setting, and unmistakable visual identity. Over the years, the game has been adapted to numerous modern platforms, including PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch under the title Cursed Castilla EX, but it has never officially reached a retro gaming platform until now.

Maldita Castilla: Requiem is not intended to be a 1:1 conversion. Following the tradition of classic 1990s console adaptations, this new Mega Drive version combines faithfully recreated stages and locations from the original game with new routes, unseen areas, hidden secrets, and player-driven progression designed specifically for SEGA’s 16-bit hardware.

Features Included in This Demo

• Exclusive Mega Drive / Genesis adaptation • Classic stages and brand-new content • Alternate routes and hidden secrets • MegaQR online leaderboard support • Compatible with real hardware and emulators

Completed the demo (1.3) a bit ago, using Fusion emulator :)

Amazing, challenging like in the good old days!

I had a crash with the latest 1.4, using Blastem emulator (dying vs the first big headless knight), so i went back to 1.3

awesome but the game splash of demo 1.4 still showed V1.3, FYI

Wow this is nice ! Congrats !

thanks!!! The best is yet to come!!!

This port is truly what a Sega Genesis game should be. Impressive soundtrack and old-school gameplay.

thanks a lot!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hola Chicos! Me ofrezco para hacer una versión física de este juego. Tengo la licencia de Attack of the PETSCII Robots para Sega Genesis y  estoy comenzando a venderlo. Me pueden escribir a wiz@thewizard.cl
Saludos!!

Impressive port so far. I did notice a few things tho.

For controls, attacking on the ground makes you unable to jump for a certain amount of frames. The original allows you to jump at any point in the attacking animation, so this feels really bad imo. You try to throw and jump at the same time and you are just stuck on the ground as it eats your jump.

And similar, if you are moving and you attack and jump on the same frame, you will not attack.

A couple glitches in this clip. An enemy sprite got stuck floating in the air on the first screen.

And you can skip the first boss by having him hit you into the door.

ey!!! Thanks a lot!!! It’s precoñious all your feedback. I will send to the coder. 🫶

Thanks for your feedback. We'll release a bugfix asap. I'd recommend using a more accurate emulator like blastem, kega has been superseded a long time ago.

Wonderful work! Congratulations!

Here's my gameplay:

really thanks a lot!! Awesome video!! So happy you like this game. We are working hard sin 2023. I’m sure you will love surprises we have for all of you. 💪

Low replies! Lets do an article then :D - Awesome game, thanks for the demo! Cant wait till it's finished

thanks a lot ❤️❤️❤️

You're welcome :)

(1 edit)

I know it says Use an Emulator but I prefer real hardware.

I'm getting a crash using Mega Everdrive Pro.

Do you want error information or are you not interested in real hardware failures at this point?

Edit: I'm am getting errors in emulator too.

Hi. Thanks for your feedback. Could you provide more context about the crash?

Sure. Using the sickle weapon seems to trigger a crash eventually.

Once I was fighting the floating dragon in front of the statue of the Virgin Mary. While ducking and firing at the dragon it crashed.

The image provided was from the above crash.

Another time I was fighting the harpies after the fall. It was kinda hectic. Lots of jumping and ducking and firing. It crashed.

Using the standard sword weapon I was able to complete the demo without issue.

Thanks a lot Xchester77. Paspallas is the coder of the game. All feedback is gold for us.
